Tan Choo Eng, 60, completed his schooling in Penang. Studied
Polymer Science & Technology at University of Manchester, UK,
and obtained a BSc (Hons) and later a MSc from Queen’s
University Belfast, UK.
His past and present employment and experience includes; as a
factory manager, construction manager, professional studio
photographer and part-time nature guide.
He is the Penang branch chairman of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) since 2010 and is also the current chairman of the Bird Conservation Council of MNS. He has published as lead or co-author numerous scientific articles on rubber and plastic, and nature, and is the co-owner of a British patent. He has participated in various scientific expedition and seminar, and also presented papers, organized by PERHILITAN, Jabatan Perhutanan Semenanjung Malaysia, Jabatan Taman Laut Malaysia, Kementerian Pelancongan Seni dan Budaya Malaysia, Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia, and various national and regional NGO.
In Penang State, he is actively involved with Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai in their Eco-tourism and Wildlife and Natural Heritage (mangroves and wetland) conservation program, and with the Penang Green Council in various other programs. He is a member of the Board of Advisors to the Penang National Park.
