Dr. Lim Mah Hui has a PhD in economics and sociology. He taught at the University of Malaya and later at Temple University in the USA. He then worked
in several major international banks in New York city, Singapore, Hong Kong, Jakarta and Manila
After he left banking, he returned to Malaysia and has devoted his time to research, public speaking and civil society work. He was nominated by Penang Forum and appointed by the State to serve as a city councilor in MBPP for six years from 2011 to 2016. He served on the Finance Committee, Planning Committee and Infrastructure and Traffic Committee.
He has actively spoken out and worked for a more economically balanced and environmentally sustainable development in Penang. Some of the projects he initiated included planting of the Boshida trees along Gurney Drive and part of Cantonment Road, installation of one of the first Bio Regen composting machine in Bayan Baru market
